Creating Modern Spaces to Engage Academic Curiosity and Early Education Excellence
We are deeply grateful to our community for making our Stormonth Elementary renovations possible through the approval of the $58.5M referendum in April 2022. The support from our staff, administration, students, families and community has created a future-ready learning environment that will benefit Fox Point and Bayside for years to come. We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life!
Throughout our facilities project, collaboration with staff, neighbors and partners has been key. From initial planning and design to final construction, our focus has been on creating a flexible, safe and inclusive environment for all.
Every decision made was centered on fostering a rich learning experience that honors the unique talents of our students and prepares them for future success.

Stormonth Elementary holds a rich history tied to both the school district and the community. To balance preserving its architectural character while maintaining a comfortable learning environment, the school underwent transformative renovations to enhance both its functionality and efficiency throughout the building.
Key upgrades improved security and infrastructure, including modernized electrical systems, updated low-voltage cabling, a new PA system and enhanced door access control and security features. Energy efficiency and aesthetics were improved with new windows, shades, sills and exterior doors, along with upgraded lighting throughout the building.
Interior spaces received a full makeover, featuring updated ceilings, fresh paint, new flooring, and modern casework and countertops. Air conditioning was also installed throughout the school to ensure a comfortable learning environment year-round. Additional safety upgrades include a new fire suppression system, a new fire alarm and an upgraded elevator recall system. These improvements create an optimal space where students can focus on learning.
Today’s education emphasizes dynamic learning environments that encourage collaboration and adaptability. From the start of this renovation, enhancing classroom spaces was a top priority for the district.
Traditional classrooms – once limited in mobility and peer interaction – have been reimagined with flexible furniture and technology to foster collaboration and support evolving learning approaches. These enhancements provide students with greater opportunities to work together and engage in hands-on activities.
In alignment with the district’s Framework for our Future, all grade-level classrooms now feature new casework, countertops and ADA-compliant sinks, ensuring accessibility for all students. At Stormonth, each classroom is designed to support a diverse student population and create an inclusive, engaging space for young learners.
Specials classes provide students with opportunities to explore creativity, develop athletic skills and discover new passions beyond traditional coursework. Renovations to Stormonth’s specials classrooms have made these spaces more dynamic and functional.
The art room doubled in size, providing ample space for students to explore their creativity and take on larger projects. The music room was relocated to an upgraded space featuring a small performance stage. The gym now benefits from bright, inviting lights, creating a more energized atmosphere for physical activity. Additionally, the Spanish classroom was expanded, offering more room for interactive learning experiences and cultural immersion.
These upgraded spaces empower students to explore their interests and develop new skills in an engaging environment.
Modernizing spaces to improve accessibility and comfort was a key focus of the renovation, including the school’s bathrooms. The walls and plumbing were reconfigured to meet ADA standards, while modern tile and fixtures create a clean, updated look. These improvements ensure all students have access to safe and functional restroom facilities.
The Stormonth cafeteria has long been the heart of our school. While primarily serving as a lunch area and an opportunity to foster meaningful relationships amongst peers, it had the potential to be utilized for a variety of activities throughout the school day.
Now, the completely updated cafeteria is a flexible, multi-use space designed for more than just mealtime. The redesigned area accommodates school meetings, welcomes visiting authors and artists, and facilitates various student activities. With the incorporation of enhanced technology, including acoustical ceiling clouds and baffles, the space is ideal for hosting large-scale community presentations.
Stormonth’s corridors connect every space of our school as students, staff and families navigate them to get to classes and store personal belongings. Given their importance in daily operations, creating a safe and efficient space for movement and storage was a priority.
Our corridors now feature updated flooring, fresh paint and modernized cubbies and lockers, creating a cleaner and more durable environment. Additionally, previously underutilized corridors have been converted into small group instruction areas, providing dedicated spaces for focused and individualized learning. These areas support diverse student needs and further enhance the school’s ability to provide personalized instruction.
Renovations have allowed for the transformation of previously underutilized spaces into areas that better serve students. One example is the former storage room, which has been repurposed into a multipurpose space designed to support student well-being.
The room now includes a new health room and office, an ADA-compliant bathroom with a shower, and an additional classroom. These improvements make more efficient use of district facilities while providing essential resources for students.
The former district office, previously a compartmentalized space that limited efficiency, has been reimagined to better support students and staff. With the district office now located at Bayside Middle School, this area was transformed into an open, flexible space featuring two dedicated meeting rooms.
