WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF LEARNING AT
BAYSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL
We are deeply grateful to our community for making the new Bayside Middle School facilities possible through the approval of the $58.5M referendum in April 2022. And a special thanks to our Bayside Visioning Team, made up of teachers and administrators, who played a key role in shaping the vision and using lived experience and educational best practices to influence the school’s design. The support from our staff, administration, students, families and community has created a future-ready learning environment that will benefit Fox Point and Bayside for years to come. We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life!
Throughout our facilities project, collaboration with staff, neighbors and partners has been key. From initial planning and design to final construction, our focus has been on creating a flexible, safe and inclusive environment for all.
Every decision made was centered on fostering a rich learning experience that honors the unique talents of our students and prepares them for future success.

The commons area is more than just a gathering space – it’s the heart of our school, designed to welcome every student, staff member and visitor with open arms. The spacious design provides a bright, open area for both formal and informal gatherings and features flexible arrangements that can be reconfigured to suit the needs of any group.
Students entering the school are greeted with a thoughtful design that fosters an equitable arrival experience, whether they’re coming by bus, bike or car. The dedicated bus drop-off area ensures smooth, efficient transitions while maintaining traffic flow around the campus. Inside, visitors are welcomed by the front office team, who ensure security and provide a warm introduction to our school.
The commons is also equipped with industry-grade audio-visual capabilities, making it an ideal space for presentations, interactive learning and larger events. Its flexibility allows it to serve as a collaboration hub for small group projects, staff meetings and community events, offering a versatile space that is always active and inclusive.
The new gym is designed to be much more than a place for physical education – it’s a hub for school spirit, events, and personal wellness. With seating for up to 495 people, it is the perfect venue for assemblies, school-wide celebrations and sporting events.
Safety and accessibility are key priorities in this space. The gym is equipped with an advanced audio system that ensures clear communication, including automatic volume reduction during announcements. Emergency blue lights provide an additional layer of security, and an FM system ensures that hearing-impaired students and visitors can fully participate during events.
Adjacent to the gym is the fitness room, a modern facility equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines and a dedicated calisthenics area. This space supports both staff and student fitness, whether through physical education classes or personal exercise. Designed with accessibility in mind, the fitness room also features gender-neutral bathroom, private changing areas and hose-off carpeting for easy maintenance, ensuring comfort and privacy for all.
Fox Point-Bayside believes in nurturing the creative talents of every student, and our new stage is a testament to this commitment. Featuring cutting-edge technology, our stage is one of the most advanced spaces in the school, designed to offer students a professional environment for theater performances, concerts and presentations.A rear projector, hidden cables and top-tier lighting systems ensure a clean and safe performance space, where students can focus on their craft without distraction. The stage is fully accessible, with a ramp to accommodate performers of all abilities, ensuring that every student can participate in arts and stage-related activities.
For students interested in the behind-the-scenes work of stage design, an adjacent scene shop offers hands-on opportunities to explore set construction and design. These facilities provide an immersive learning experience, equipping students with practical skills in stagecraft while fostering a lifelong love of the arts. The stage is a key component in Fox Point-Bayside’s commitment to keeping the arts alive and thriving.
Music education is a vital part of the curriculum and our new music suite is designed to provide students with a world-class environment to develop their talents. Home to the band, orchestra and choir programs, this space has been thoughtfully designed with larger-than-average rooms, ensuring that students can comfortably practice and perform.
Acoustics were a major consideration in the design of the music suite. Each room features sound baffles to enhance the quality of sound, creating an optimal environment for learning and performance. Additionally, the suite offers generous storage spaces to safely house instruments and music materials, promoting organization and ease of use.
The music suite also includes eight individual practice rooms. These private spaces allow students to focus on improving their musical abilities in a quiet, supportive environment, further contributing to our vibrant performing arts program.
The LMC and Makerspace are designed to spark creativity and foster innovation. These versatile areas are equipped with mobile furniture and shelving, making it easy to reconfigure the space for a variety of activities, from individual study to group collaboration or community events.
The LMC offers a more traditional study environment, but with modern touches like curated book collections tailored to student interests, and open sightlines in shelving that allow for easy supervision by faculty and staff. Together, these spaces provide students with the tools they need to explore, create and collaborate in an engaging, safe environment.
The Makerspace is a highlight for students who love to explore hands-on projects. Whether it’s experimenting with robotics, programming code, or using one of the 3D printers, students are encouraged to push the boundaries of their creativity. Additionally, the space is filled with art materials, textiles and LEGO to support imaginative play and learning.
Each grade is assigned a specific zone, with 5th and 6th grades located on the first floor, and 7th and 8th grades on the second floor. This thoughtful layout fosters community within each grade level while ensuring a secure, structured environment.
Classrooms are connected to open spaces featuring modular furniture that supports both small group collaboration and focused, individual work. Windows between classrooms and hallways ensure teachers can monitor students at all times, while still maintaining a sense of openness and connection. Lockers, which are wider than usual to accommodate Chromebooks and personal items, are thoughtfully designed to be age-appropriate, supporting student organization and supervision.
Each grade neighborhood includes bathrooms with outside sinks and bottle-filling stations, promoting hygiene and convenience.
Bayside Middle School provides two small group instruction/collaboration rooms for each grade level, designed to accommodate a variety of learning needs. One room offers a relaxed, tech-free environment with soft furniture, ideal for students who benefit from a quieter, less stimulating space. The other room features standard seating and a monitor for screen casting, allowing teachers to project lessons and maintain student engagement in a more focused environment.
These flexible spaces are perfect for students who need individualized attention or support from a paraprofessional, and they’re also ideal for small group work. Teachers can cast screens into these suites, keeping students connected to the lesson while offering a quieter, distraction-free area for learning.
Glass windows between the classrooms and these instructional suites provide visual connectivity, promoting a sense of inclusion even when students need to step out for focused learning. This thoughtful design supports the diverse needs of students while ensuring they remain part of the overall classroom experience.
The new life skills room at Bayside is designed to teach practical, everyday skills to students with special needs. Equipped with washer, dryer, kitchenette and bathroom, this space provides hands-on experience in essential tasks like cooking and hygiene. Accessibility features ensure that all students, including those using wheelchairs, can fully participate and build confidence in their abilities.
The sensory room offers a calming environment for students who may need to de-stress or re-center themselves during the day. It includes tools like a treadmill, mats and bean bags to provide physical and emotional support, helping students regulate their emotions and improve focus. This space is particularly beneficial for students dealing with sensory overload or anxiety.
Together, these rooms offer a holistic approach to learning, combining practical life skills with emotional well-being. Designed to foster independence and support diverse needs, these spaces ensure that every student can thrive both in school and in life.
The STEM and art rooms are designed to blend creativity with critical thinking. The STEM room is an adaptable, undefined space equipped with a kitchenette, offering endless possibilities for hands-on experiments, projects and computer science classes. From learning to code to planning future sustainable cities, students are encouraged to think critically about real-world problems and work collaboratively on innovative solutions.
The art room, with its kiln for ceramics, provides students with the opportunity to explore both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms. Whether working on paintings, sculptures, or ceramics, students can develop their artistic skills in a space that is fully accessible and tailored to their needs.
Both rooms are designed to be flexible, allowing for dynamic learning experiences that cross between science, technology, engineering, art and math. These spaces encourage students to think both creatively and analytically, preparing them for success in a wide range of disciplines.
